ABOUT

Reiki is a Japanese term that describes both this gentle, hands-on healing style, as well as the healing energy itself.  A Reiki session promotes spiritual and energetic balance in all of our mind-body systems (physical, mental, emotional and spiritual) to enhance and improve health and well being. Japanese Christian theologian Dr. Mikao Usui “rediscovered” this healing way in the early 20th century while on a vision quest.  He then brought this to his community and developed a system of teaching for self-care and the care of others.  Hands-on healing, however, has deeply ancient roots.

The experience of Reiki for relaxation, improved health and peace of mind is now widely accepted and used in many hospitals, community programs and hospice care.  Research shows that 50-80% of doctor visits for illness are related to elevated stress levels.  Reiki reduces these stress levels, making it possible to become more fully restored and on a track of improved health.  A more relaxed mind/body/spirit helps us open to the natural, healing capacity we all have within us.

During a Reiki session you remain fully clothed while lying on a bodywork table.  I position my hands gently above or lightly upon your head and body.  There are a series of positions, and a typical session lasts approximately one hour.  As you relax more and more, many levels of healing take place – sometimes subtle, sometimes direct, and often continuing beyond the appointment time.

Reiki is always safe and does not interfere with any other health care choices you make.  A session is truly an agreement that involves the practitioner – who lovingly acts as a conduit for healing energy – and the client – who comes to a session willing to remain open to healing changes.

I am a life-long student of spirituality and healing, and continue to learn day by day.  I became aware of Reiki and received Reiki I in 1996 and Reiki II in 1998 from Reiki Master Jean Hampel.  In 2004 I received Master/Teacher certification from Reiki Master William Lee Rand (www.reiki.org) and in 2005 opened a private practice.  I am a member of the Int’l. Assn. of Reiki Professionals (www.iarp.org).

Here are just some examples of how Reiki has been applied for improved health:

  1. For relaxation – clearing stress clears the mind – rebalances and restores health
  2. For cancer patients during all phases of treatment – complements your healing goals
  3. For surgical patients, pre- and post-surgery – speeds recovery, can reduce need for pain meds
  4. For depression – gently eases stressful responses, opens doorways to possibility
  5. For hospice care – eases end-of-life transition

I do not diagnose medical conditions or prescribe medications.  You are encouraged to seek health care assistance from your choice of qualified professionals to more fully educate yourself regarding the nature of your condition and receive the most appropriate level of care.  Speak freely with your doctors about Reiki!  The more we all understand, the greater our ability to work together in harmony.  Open communication helps us create optimal health.
